They have built an overall scoring tool that gives constituents a point for everything that they can identify from the database indicating wealth, connection and interest (capacity, assets, event attendance, other philanthropy, involvements, positive/negative meeting outcomes, etc.). There are something like 35 possible points. The report totals the points–the higher the total points, the better the prospect. They can identify the top prospects from the constituent pool in a matter of seconds.

Overall Score

· Gift Capacity: $50K+ = 1 point
· Priority rating (gift capacity and affinity combined): Wealthy (4+) and Engaged (5+) = 1 point.
· Affinity score: 5+ = 1 point
· Major giving likelihood: 600+ = 1 point
· Philanthropic intent as indicated by Truegivers: 1 point
· Inclination to give a major gift over the next 5 years as rated by the officer: 1) Positive = 1 point; 2) Neutral = 0 points. 3) Negative = -1 point.
· Bates involvement: aeronautics club = 1 point
· Clinic involvement: clinic sponsor or advisor = 1 point
· Consistent giving: 3 out of 10 years = 1 point
· Consecutive giving: 3 years of consecutive giving during last 10 years = 1 point
· Giving: $1,000+ in last 5 fiscal years = 1 point for each year
· Giving velocity: Accelerating = 1 point: Maintaining = 0 points; Decelerating = 1 point over the past 2 years (last fiscal year/previous fiscal)
· Largest gift amount: $1,000+ = 1 point
· Last gift amount: $1,000+ = 1 point
· Last gift date: < 3 years ago = +1 point; > 3 years ago = -1 point; no giving= -1 point
· Lifetime giving: $5,000+ = 1 point
· Readiness Stage: Cultivation, Solicitation, Stewardship = 1 point; Solicitation declined = -1 point
· Legacy Society: +1 point
· Disqualified: -1 point
· Meeting outcome: positive = 1 point; negative = -1 point; neutral = 0 points

When assigning prospects, they look for a score of 10-13+, except for parents, who usually have a lower score. They are assessed separately.
